Guiding Principles

The following are guiding principles that we follow when creating and promoting this site:

  • Teach the 8 millennium development goals. “Always the 8.”

If everyone knows the 8 MDGs by heart, that alone is a major accomplishment, and accomplishment enough. Find creative ways to teach the list of 8 goals.

  • Raise awareness, not money.

Though the proposed non-profit status does not, and should not, preclude raising money to support our effort, the primary focus must always be on creatively raising awareness of the MDGs.

  • Do not duplicate effort. “Just enough.”

There are several excellent MDG-centric sites that go deeply into the subject of the MDGs. We do not need to re-create their effort, but rather direct attention to their effort. Use a “just enough” rule to put just enough information on our pages to make sense to the reader at a high level while creating avenues to deeper information on other sites.

  • Build community

Use the site to get people involved and contributing. We envision the private sector, the corporate world, and faith-based organizations contributing to this common goal: promoting the MDGs through viral marketing techniques.

  • Give credit where credit is due.

People and organizations who contribute to this effort must be credited.

  • Practice full disclosure.

Work on the serious issues of hunger, poverty, and other problems of the developing world should never be compromised by mistrust in organizations or sites such as this. No profit, nor hint of profit, should be gained from this work since this would amount to exploitation. To insure this, a non-profit status must be met and all inner workings of the site and its supporting organization should be transparent.
